The Case of the Violent Village (1960) - SPOILER

I think I only missed two minutes of this episode.

What were the circumstances under which daughter # 1 died?
Why was Beecher accused of that murder?
How was he cleared?
Did daughter # 2 hate her father or did she just blame Beecher for her sister's death?

***SPOILERS***

Daughter # 1 was killed when Beecher gave her a ride home and the car skidded off the road. He claimed he only had one drink but was convicted of vehicular manslaughter and served 9 months in prison. He came back home to his wife after he got out.

Charlotte (Daughter # 2) hated Beecher. She either wanted to kill him or see him sent back to prison by framing him for stealing the payroll money, with she and Norman Thurston actually stealing it. I wasn't really clear on that. Since Charlotte shot Beecher without warning in the office, it looked like she may have planned to kill him and say he had tried to rob the office. If that were the case, she really didn't need Thurston and there would have been no way for her to steal the money. I kind of think that she actually planned to just kill him, but including Norman in the story allowed Charlotte to discuss how she really felt about Beecher, and let the viewers know what was actually going on. Stealing the money also provided a motive for Norman to kill Charlotte. All in all, this was an episode that seemed to require the viewer to overlook a plot hole. This was my take on the episode, anyway.

Several Warner's players of the 40s appear on PM, including Barton MacLane. Another vet of The Maltese Falcon, Jerome Cowan, was in a recent episode on METV. George Tobias, and Martha Vickers are 2 others.
