Were there ever plans for a spin off?

It's common today for popular characters to get their own show. Was there ever any talk about Paul getting his own show, Paul Drake PI (like Magnum PI but only better) or having Burger move to another city and follow him putting criminals away? A cop show showing Lt Tragg shooting up murderers, or better yet, a dating sitcom with Della? I jest a little, but was curious if the spin off idea was ever considered and with which character. I'm guessing Paul would have been the most likely choice.

I don't know the answer to that question, but if other posters aren't offended, we could (as you alluded) jest a little by coming up with concept ideas for spin-offs. Sort of like a recent thread here, having fun with characters' names.

I like the concept of a Paul Drake spin-off. He could have easily segued into a secret agent role so prevalent at the time Perry Mason left the air. A guest star in the pilot could have been Patrick McGoohan as Paul's British cousin John Drake from the series Secret Agent.

Think of the crossover possibilities: I Spy, The Man From UNCLE, Mission: Impossible, Get Smart. No, strike that last one!

How about George E. Stone or Olan Soulé starring in "Court Clerk"? The gimmick is that they never reveal the character's name.

Or a sitcom about a working girl looking for love, but the men she meets keep getting arrested for murder: "Gertie!", starring Connie Cezon. (That's not to be confused with the bumbling-lawyer show "Gideon!", starring Karl Held.)
