Jonathan Kidd as Philip Burroughs in TCOT Stuttering Bishop is one of the creepiest villains in all the Perry Mason series, especially in the scene where he’s trying to, in effect, blackmail Claire Carleton. Della had him pegged from the start (‘all the finer instincts of a scorpion’).
It's a tribute to Kidd's acting ability that, a few years down the road, he was very sympathetic as Joe Italiano in TCOT Bluffing Blast. PM was fortunate in having such accomplished thespians to play recurring roles. For example, Ralph Dumke was ultra-likable as Roland Carter in TCOT Substitute Face; two seasons later, he was one of the most despicable PM characters ever, Hudson Nichols in TCOT Blushing Pearls.
