Case of the Bogus Books
Now that the boards are going to be going away I'm thinking of all sorts of questions to ask.
ANyway, about this episode... I've seen this episode a number of times and I always wonder the same thing about the scam. The bookstore owner (or someone) steals 1st-edition books and replaces them with 2nd- or 3rd-edition books. So they steal something valuable by replacing it with something less valuable-- makes perfect sense.
But then they take the 1st-edition book and... change it or modify it in some way?? WHY?? That's like successfully stealing the Mona Lisa, and then painting a mustache on her.
Maybe I'm dense, but what am I missing?
