Bummed..

I love Maverick. Great show, watch it religiously on American Life tv. so I got real excited when I read that WB was going to release DVDs of the show. HOORAY!!. But then the details comeout. Now I have many tv shows on DVD; I always buy the full season sets(like Star Trek, The simpsons, Danger Man, etc.) , but WB plans on releasing only 3 episodes on a single DVD. Man, that blows. I would rather have a "professional" full season release set of episodes(which is why taping or burning my own would not be an acceptable option for me). Oh well, maybe they'll come to their senses and do season sets in the future.

I agree. Almost everyone I know who has watched the old series was excited to hear there would be DVD's coming out. Now to hear there is only one with three episodes is a let down. It's almost as if WB is making a token gesture towards the fans. You would think that because Maverick was really the series that was WB's landmark on the television media they would have more respect for the series and the fans. Let's just see how much they charge for this "wonderful" gift of a single DVD.

From my understanding the first DVD is only 3 episodes that were popular among the orginal ratings. The first season was pressed on DVD almost 2 years ago by Columbia (Sony/Tristar) home video. WB bought the TV rights back in a huge vault clearing. They decided to hold off on the release because they wanted to re-start their badly lacking TV video catalog and chose the 50th anniversary of WB TV to do it. They will be releasing the whole series over time, but the anniversary disc may be the only one for a year or two.

When I talked to Columbia about the release two years ago, they told me there was no subtitle/closed captioned/language options and the DVD was done from the orginal tapes (which they stressed to me like that was a good thing). It would seem that even though EB is taking their own sweet time with it, they will be doing the series right by cleaning up the video, sound, and giving a full rage of subs/cc/language options plus extras. I'm not sure what extras could mean. Mabey interviews with surviving cast/crew?

All in all, I find it really strange that Columbia not only sold the TV rights back to WB, but did a pitiful job on the first attempt of the series on DVD. That's not like them and it's very unlike WB to do a good job at DVD's (bad on the wait though).

Here is a link to some basic news about it.

According to tvondvd.com, WB is about to announce the future release of S1 of Cheyenne starring Clint Walker soon. Why? They say because it's "best of" set sold so well, it seems people want full season sets, so they're going to accomodate. BULLSxxT! What dope believes that? Cheyenne more popular than F-Troop or Maverick? I THINK NOT! Money grubbing liars.WB sucks.WB

Well, I know that the "best of" DVD's were released in alphabetical order, and they started at the begining of 2005. With that said mabey we should wait a bit and see how the Maverick DVD's sold. The Maverick DVD's just came out about what? 2 mabey 3 months ago? Give it some time and see what they say arround mid 2006. It does take a certain ammount of time and capital to remaster an entire series and the owners/stockholders of course would just want to toss time and money away on a product they have no reason to think would sell. Since there have been several series and movies based on the orginal Maverick, I'm willing to bet that it's a given they will release it. Why else whould they have bought the home video rights back from Columbia if they hadnt already planned to do it?

To those who read this thread:

This marcamy person (the post above mine) is following me around IMDB and trying to pick a fight. As you'll see I've broken no rules on the IMDB and his messages tend to be nothing but all caps, name calling, and ill wishing rhetoric. I've tried to deal with him through private messages so as not to cause problems in the threads since it doesnt belong here. He doesnt respond. I've been forced to send abuse reports to the administrators to deal with it. I'm sorry that I've dragged a troll into the threads with me, but I have no choice. He's going to follow me where ever I go and he seems to think it's cute. I'm not going to leave the IMDB after a decade of use just because of him. So until the IMDB staff decide that he must go, everybody has to deal with him. I just felt that the rest of you should at least be aware of it when you see his posts. Thanks for your time and allowing me to be off topic.
