From 'The Savage Hills' - I've a question

How many man can claim to have been victimized by a beautiful woman? And not just once, but again and again? What gene is the mature man lacking that allows him to be duped by a pretty face so often? IMO, more men than women are victimized in this fashion. I just don't know a woman of my acquaintance, friends or relatives, who've been taken so badly, and repeatedly, too!!

Just curious. You can change the names to protect the silly. :)

Well, if you watch "Dateline", "20/20", or other tragedy TV shows, you'll see PLENTY of women who have allowed themselves to be swindled by smooth-talking no-goods. More men are convicted of bigamy, for example, than women, and often the bigamist married them to gain access to their assets, which they steal before abandoning their victims. Male swindlers more often murder their victims to shut them up than do female swindlers. Gullibility is not a weakness of any particular gender, but of humanity at large.

I'm amazed how many times Maverick, after winning big in poker, was waylaid and robbed outside a saloon.

Spot on, mrmime. It gets awfully tired after a while. And makes me question the Maverick boys' natural abilities at self-protection. Pappy has more training to do.

LOL I know what you mean. You'd think he would go another way or run back to his hotel after winning big. Or maybe put some cash in his wallet and some cash in his shoe or pantsleg so the thief wouldn't get so much.

And I'm surprised that neither of the brothers had brain damage after getting hit on the head so much! Poor Bart got knocked out twice in one episode once! ;)

Here's another minor quibble. I can see Maverick wearing his gambling finery on a riverboat or in a San Francisco casino, but playing poker in that getup in some backwater saloon in some remote cattle town is just looking for trouble. If I were a cowpoke and Maverick sat down, I'd get up and play KENO!

As a viewer, you just have to accept Maverick in his fancy duds.

LOL Good point. When Maverick tries to claim he is a novice at poker and is dressed to the nines, people should run for the hills.

I like his fancy duds though. I always wondered what color Maverick's vests were. :)

When does Maverick ever claim to be a novice at poker? I have heard him say many times that he isn't really a gambler, because he'a a BETTER poker player than the rubes he plays with.

ahope, I can think of one humorous scene when Bart pretended to be a novice. I don't remember the name of the episode, but it's one with Roger Moore.

Anyway, Bart is playing with cheaters that wear colored glasses so they can read marked cards. So, all of a sudden, Bart pulls out his own set of glasses and beats them at their own game. As it turned out, Beau had played with these guys the week before, so Bart knew what to expect and came prepared.
