- Maverick Lyrics
Who is the tall, dark stranger there?
Maverick is the name.
Ridin' the trail to who knows where,
Luck is his companion,
Gamblin' is his game.
Smooth as the handle on a gun.
Maverick is the name.
Wild as the wind in Oregon,
Blowin' up a canyon,
Easier to tame.
Riverboat, ring your bell,
Fare thee well, Annabel.
Luck is the lady that he loves the best.
Natchez to New Orleans
Livin on jacks and queens
Maverick is a legend of the west.
Riverboat, ring your bell,
Fare thee well, Annabel.
Luck is the lady that he loves the best.
Natchez to New Orleans
Livin on jacks and queens
Maverick is a legend of the west.
Maverick is a legend of the west.
Thanks,
For the lyrics, I could already remember them, but I am looking for the Performer/Singer so I can find a copy of the song. If anyone has this information from their video's I would be grateful. Thanks again.
You can find it on youtube, and make an mp3 file out of it on the mp3ify.com web site.

The song was written by David Buttolph and Paul Francis Webster, but the show never ID'd the singers. I think they were the same vocalists that sang the Cheyenne theme, but the singers there weren't identified, either.
I have a copy of Maverick on a CD called "Tv's Greatest hemes," but the artist is identified as David Buttolph-P.F. Weber. It may be a different, slghtly faster version than the TV theme.
The Sons of the Pioneers did a version in 1957, but it was much slower than the one used on TV.
Hope some of that helps a little. It's a great theme.
Hey ZevII,
Talking about the "Maverick" theme song brought back some fond memories from my childhood. As a boy, I had three small 78 rpm records of TV shows of the day. I had "Maverick", "Zorro" and "Swamp Fox". The records were yellow instead of black, and my older sister said that I drove her crazy by playing them all the time. Driving my sister crazy was not a bad thing, because she drove me nuts with her Bobby Vinton LP: "Blue Velvet".
But I remember not understanding the lyrics of "Maverick" clearly. When they sing 'living on Jacks and Queens', I always wondered who Jackson Queens was.
Clintessence,
I almost used "Jackson Queens" as my alias here on IMDB. I decided the reference would be too obscure for most people. I'm glad to see at least ONE person would've gotten my joke.

Just goes to show warped minds think alike, I guess.
shareI just watched season 1, episode 6 of Maverick on Cozi tv, which led me to the IMDb. I was 9 y.o. when the series premiered. At the time, I also heard "jacks and queens" as Jackson Queens. I took it to be about the Mississippi town of Jackson, although I wondered why Bret would be gambling that far away (about 45 mi.) from the Mississippi River. I figured, in my 9 y.o. mind, that "Jackson Queens" was referring to 'fancy ladies' in Jackson, and that Bret would sometimes 'live' off of them as a temporary gigolo when his fortunes were low. (My mother took me and my older brother to a lot of movies with adult-themes, and I read a lot of adult books, so I had a rather simplified, 9 y.o.'s knowledge about those things.)
shareMan . . . I didn't even know what a gigolo was when I was nine years old.
