Maverick DVDs!!

dvdavenue.tv is a canadian company that sells DVDs of classic tv shows including Maverick! It's not a fraud, we ordered, and received the entire tv show on DVD, five cases, five dvds to a case, five episodes to a dvd. It's an emerging company, but it is not fake. The quality is good. I'm not lying, not kidding, everything points to it being a fraud, but unless they only burned the first three dvds, it is legitimate.

other than the fact that they're bootlegs.

I ordered a set being a Maverick fan but the quality on some of the episodes are not up to par because of being bootlegs. There is a Bart episode that you can't even see because it is too bright. These seem to be just recorded off of TV for the most part and some of the episodes are not as complete as they advertised. Still, it is nice to see the episodes again in some kind of format. Too bad Warners won't release the sets professionally! This guy charges a fortune!

The U.S. DVD's are supposed to be releaed on the 22nd of September, 2006. Dont bother with the bootlegs until then. If you'll notice, the new image for the maverick thread is the new season 1 DVD set. The only odd thing is nobody is taking pre-orders yet.

Any more word on the official DVDs? It would be nice.

In the meantime, earlier in the year, I broke down and got a set of the bootlegs from the lowest price dealer, which may have been a mistake. Some of the episodes were unwatchable, including The Saga of Waco Williams, and many that we watched successfully no longer work. This may not be the case for the pricer sets. We did manage to view 50 or sixty episodes, though the quality of the recording varied from very good to poor. This might vary according to the distributor.

On the plus side, I was impressed at how well most of them hold up. A few that I'd either never seen or can't remember seeing strike me as classic. Particularly "Two Beggars on Horseback," with Bret and Bart racing to get to a bank to cash checks. I think it rivals "Shady Deal at Sunny Acres." Another two brother epsiode, "A Game of Chance" was also first rate. The first season is relatively straight until the appearance of Samantha Crawford, and later, Dandy Jim Buckly. I was surprised to find that the funniest episode of the first season (IMHO) was Bart's encounter with Samantha in "The Savage Hills." Besides several excellent episodes I had seen and taped off TVLand during their Maverick Marathon a few years ago (like the wonderful "A Fellow's Brother" and "Greenbacks Unlimited," I was most pleasantly surprised by William Reynold's subtle comic performance in very clever Garner episode, "A Cure for Johnny Rain." The story is very clever, but it relies on Reynold's ability to sell the Wodehousian premise with changes of expression. It's too bad he didn't get more chances to show off his light comic skills.

Overall, a landmark series that should be released. Clever scripts, memorable performances, great lead characters, numerous wonderful character actors.

Amazon lists the first season of Maverick DVDs as unavailable, but let's you essentially "vote" for them by asking to be informed when they are released.

I believe the image on the IMDB page is the Maverick Television Favorites DVD (found here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000A0GXGA/ref=wl_it_dp/102-7707104-8139329?ie=UTF8&coliid=I2CD2OWUTQCLDT&colid=2OBBVTXUQ2PYF ) It seems to only have 3 episodes, definitely not all of season 1.

No, it's not. I have the TV favorites. It's a clear slim box. There just isnt any news on the season release. I think they are from the orginal run of 1st season run that Sony/Columbia did before they gave the rights back to WB.

I must be luckier then most. Ten or so years ago,I purchased the complete Columbia House video series of Maverick. There were 25 volumes, all in handsome hard plastic dustcovers with a great pic of James Garner on the front and pictures from the episodes on the back. The quality is outstanding with deep, rich black and white contrast and great sound. This release, however, strongly favored Garner with only a small percentage of Jack Kelly episodes. But it's almost the complete Garner with only a couple of episodes of Bret not included. Brother Bart mostly appears with Bret and is rarely seen soley in this set.
It is,of course, on video, but that's a small price to pay for this rare set,as long as my tape player is maintained so it doesn't,perish forbid, eat the tape.

I personally would love a release of a Maverick "mega-set" entitled "TALES OF THE MAVERICK FAMILY",releasing EVERY Maverick production made for TV. It would also be a hoot to have Garner sitting by a fireplace introducing each episode. In a few weeks Garner will be 80 years old and to have an old Bret telling us about the old days would be like a Maverick fan had died and gone to heaven.
Hopefully,Mel Gibson will get his MAVERICK sequel off the ground and we can, again, see the Master James Garner as Maverick.

I got the entire series at www.ioffer.com and the seller tossed in 'Bret Maverick' and the pilot for 'Young Maverick' too. With shipping, it cost me $25, and all of them are top notch.
