Actually, this is a film that adults and children should watch together. The adults could use the film to teach children the they should try to feel what the characters are feeling and why they should do so, that when a character has something tragic happening to them it is not appropriate to view that as fun or funny when it is not mean to be such or when it is meant as such but you still should not do so. A child taught such things will likely stay away from movies that clearly inappropriately make fun of suffering and tragedy.
Yes, you are correct about how you feel about the modern horror movies that are geared to teenagers and how they are not fun. But please do more than that. Take action! And include adults in this, too. Let all adults and children you know what you consider to be inappropriate reactions when watching a movie. For example, let them know you will not tolerate laughter where scenes show someone suffering and it is clearly meant to be view as serious and not funny. Let them know the consequences of acting inappropriately.
