GLORIOUS Technicolor!

I love this movie because I grew up watching it every year as a kid. The story is okay, but it's the visual feast that I love about this movie. Those sets! Those costumes! That jewelry! Those crowds!

This is an epic, all right. It is so gorgeous to watch. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

This is exactly why I keep re-watching this movie. (Well, that and Heston and Bryner without shirts on.)

I find the acting in this stilted and somewhat pompous, but I think that was a deliberate choice on De Mille's part, as being appropriate to the subject matter. The storyline is a strictly traditional, middle-of-the-road dramatization, meant to attract and satisfy the largest audience it could.

But I just LOVE the great scenes - too many to list here! I'd pay money to see it on the big screen again.

BTW, I think the movie could be sub-titled "Moses, Moses" because they never say Moses's name just once - it's always twice. (And before any of you go back and start counting, this is hyperbole.)

You're quite right about that, it is definitely a deliberate choice made by DeMille to emphasize a theme. The other interesting thing about it is that all of the major characters says 'Moses, Moses' at some point in the movie, and each time it is said, it is said in a different way. It almost as if DeMille was trying to see how many different ways that simple phrase could be said, like the 'these pretzels are making me thirsty' line on Seinfeld.

Yeah, I'd love to see this, Ben Hur and Lawrence of Arabia on the big screen in a triple bill. I'd be there the entire day, of course, but that wouldn't be so bad.
