Whalers' chant

In the first whaling scene, the three boats are launched and the men are singing a chant. Anyone know what it is?

reply

Yes, the chant is called "Blood Red Roses" and is an actually chantey from the time. Here is a link to give you more info. I loved the way Huston used music in this film, but then - I love everything about this film.

When the three boats were out to harpoon the 1st whale, the song was Hill and Gully.

I really enjoyed hearing this again. I haven't seen the film for so long, and I actually found the words to Hill and Gully Rider on another site after hearing this clip.

There was also another chant or whaler's song earlier in the film, I think as the ship was preparing to depart port. Does anyone know the words or title to that one?
