How about a more deluxe DVD?

I was hoping, given the history of this production and the fact that screenwriter Ray Bradbury is still alive, we'd have gotten a "making of" featurette or commentary track. It would also be nice to see either (or both) of the John Barrymore versions, 1926's THE SEA BEAST and 1930's MOBY DICK.

It was shot in full-screen (the last of Huston's films to be shot that way). For the deluxe DVD set, it would be nice to have recollections of director of photography, Oswald Morris (who's now 90). I don't believe there's any behind-the-scenes footage, but how about at least a nice photo gallery of production stills?

No, It was filmed in Widescreen. At an aspect of 1:66.1.

The DVD starts off with a small amount (enough) Widescreen, but changes to Pan&Scan.

It was one of the first Widescreen films.

The Margeret Herrick Library has John Huston papers they would be of use to SE DVD workers , The BFI has casting director's Robert Lennard files for the film I am sure that both sets of papers would be useful.

One thing that would be wonderful as a bonus is some of Huston's concept sketches--I saw two of them reproduced in a magazine many years ago, and they were wonderful--telling evidence of Huston's visual artistry; he wasn't JUST a story guy.

I was only just recording the TCM cablecast, hoping for some letterboxing, but, alas, it's 4:3.
