Who would be a good choice for Ahab today?

I personally think Brian Cranston would be good.

I know it has almost become cliche to say so, but I think Daniel Day Lewis could pull it off. That guy has surprised me so many times in the past few years with excellent performances of rather difficult characters. The only problem is, he doesn't have the deep vocal range the likes of Gregory Peck. But who knows, perhaps it doesn't matter. I have faith in the guy, and if Moby Dick movie was made with him playing Ahab, I would go see it for certain. I think it is time. I think the technology and the resources are there, and I think we've moved enough past the PC crap that making a movie about killing whales would be acceptable, if done with tact.

I don't know if Gary Oldman could do it, but I'd love to see him try. So many of his best charaters were more than half mad. He's excellent at playing eccentric characters like Ahab. I'll go see anything he's in. One of my favorites.

Edward James Olmos.

Hard to go past Daniel Day Lewis.

Although he's probably a little too old now, I'd go for Nick Nolte.

Paul Reubens

Nicolas Cage! 

Jayden Smith would be my pick

Mr Annnderson.....!

Harrison Ford

Nic Cage: God no!

Harrison Ford: uhh, maybe but he's so often dead pan and uninspired anymore...

Nick Nolte: I could see it.

I almost hate to say Russell Crowe b/c he's everywhere, but I think it'd be a good role for him.

Crowe couldn't carry off another deeply troubled soul, Javert in Les Miserables. While he can be dark I don't think he has Ahab in him. You need almost a classically trained actor to pull off a convincing Ahab. Peck quite surprisingly did manage to do it.

Maybe a little cliched choice, but I could see Liam Neeson in the part.

reply

I agree.
