Wouldn't you like to see a movie...

...where the "bad" guys get the money in the end? It pretty much never happens, which makes me consider this a cliche.

Great topic for discussion: films in which the bad guys actually made off with the loot and kept it. I can think of one that comes to mind: "Rough Cut" (1980) with Burt Reynolds and David Niven. Also, in "The War Wagon" (1967) IIRC the robbers, lead by John Wayne, got to keep at least some of the loot.

Also, you should really check out a Western with Henry Fonda and Kirk Douglas called "There Was a Crooked Man..." (1970), which had a very curious ending. Left you wondering whether it was a good guy or a bad guy who got the money in the end... See it.

It's called Ocean's Eleven.

There was actually a Motion Picture Production Code called the Hays Code in place from 1930 to 1968 which prohibited the bad guy winning in the end. Crime couldn't be seen to pay.

At the time this movie was made, it was against the censorship laws to make a movie where criminals "won". I doubt that Kubrick would have let them get away with it anyway, since there is an overbearing sense of doom throughout the movie... and it *is* Kubrick. If you want to watch a movie where the bad guy gets the money, watch No Country for Old Men (if you aren't bothered by its oppressive nihilism).

I'm not going there to die. I'm going to find out if I'm really alive.
