The Mask used in this movie is similar to the "Dark Knight" mask worn in the Bank Robbery. Or atleast The Jokers mask in the begining. Have not seen The Killing in awhile though.
I was reminded of it right away. This is an old clown mask, of course, and could have been picked by coincidence - but I am certain Nolan has seen The Killing and might have paid a homage to this film.

Yeah! But i guess it must be a pretty common mask. Probably inspired 1966 Batman episode with Cesar Romero playing The Joker, and Romero's episode inspired The Dark Knight. Here's a pic
