churn out a turd like Barry Lyndon is one of the great mysteries of Hollywood.

Update - saw Barry Lyndon last night and - WOW!

That is what cinema is all about.

When he was good.. Kubrick is clearly one of the best

But - he also put out some real pieces of garbage (2001) & a couple movies that sucked but were saved by a great acting performance (The Shining)

Barry Lyndon is a great movie. Even the odd casting of Ryan O'Neal works.
