One thing I didn't get...

I saw this movie a couple days ago and I'm reading the book and one thing I can't figure out is...okay, Wilma doesn't think her uncle is her uncle, and in the book she says her aunt isn't her aunt either, Miles thinks it's some kind of mental problem...why? Why all of a sudden would she have it? And WHY would other people in the town be saying the same thing, and why wouldn't he be more concerned about it? That's not an everyday occurrence.

They are sensing that their relatives are not quite right for some
reasons ? Maybe their daily habits or quirks in personality changed?

Right but from Miles' 'there's a logical explanation for everything' POV, why would all of a sudden out of nowhere would people all over town be saying their families aren't their families?

Miles does wonder what is going on too, but remember when he meets the two doctors (?) at the restaurant they give him the mass hysteria diagnosis. They even refer to the tensions of the day too. It's shortly thereafter they discover the first body.
