When the police officer explains that a body was found on a farmers haystack with the finger prints burnt off, why did they just accept this, why didn't they question how it got from the pool table to the haystack?

This was the tail end of the film noir era. The mob moved the body. At that time, it would almost go without saying.

reply

Sorry I'm still confused, what mob? Why would the protagonists start to believe what the police officer said without questioning who moved the body and why?

The pod had fully evolved, so was able to get up and move himself. The story from the cop was made up.

I know that the cop made the story up as he was already taken over by the body snatchers. My question is why would the main character not question why or how the body had been moved. They saw it physically there in the guy's house, then the next thing the policeman is telling them it's been found elsewhere.

If I understand correctly, your question is 'How the body was moved?'. In my opinion the body had fully evolved to a human state, and was therefor able to get up off the table, and leave before the others got back.

reply

Sorry I'm not making my question clear. The main character and the other people in the basement don't ever question (to the policeman) how or why the body had been moved from the guy's house.

If I had found a body on my snooker table which then disappeared, only to find out from a policeman that it had been found elsewhere I'd certainly question it.

Oh dear. We might end up going back and forth on this one, but if I were one of the people in the house with a body known to be a developing pod, and the policeman came in and said it had been found elsewhere, I would think the chain of events as, the pod had fully evolved, and got up on its own and left the house, only to be found elsewhere, and the policeman was either on the scene where the pod had been found, or he was relaying a message. If I'm not helping you at all, but making you exasperated, please ignore my post.
