It was late at night so I was not following the film closely, but what was the explanation given to the doctor when he and his colleague saw a body in the basement of his girlfriend’s place. An explanation was given by the police which cleared up his doubts, albeit temporality. What was it? Thanks.
They were actually talking about the pod person on Jack's pool table, which had by then disappeared...the policeman stated that the body was found in a fire on a farmer's property (which of course was a lie, as the cop was already taken over by the pod people, and was tying to disguise that Jack's doppelgänger was out there alive and well).

The police explanation was so weak and silly I can't believe they could think anyone would buy it. Trying to blame "seeing things" on everyone was stupid. And then saying that "problems in the world" were a big part of why townspeople were imagining things was even dumber.
I never understood why the characters who saw the body on the billiards table, never questioned the policeman as to how the body was moved from there to the farm.
Obviously the fact was that the body had evolved into a human and was able to walk there himself, but why would they not question this!?
