PLEASE: Help needed on the YOU'RE NEXT ending, quick questions

Since nobody has replied to my other thread, I'll try to be more specific about my doubts.

I need to know about the "YOU'RE NEXT" ending the following things:

1) Was it ever shown on cinemas as the actual ending of the movie?
2) If so, when?
3) Was it a wide release for mainstream audiences, or just a casual showing?
4) Was it ever released in VHS, DVD or Blu-Ray as the actual ending of the edition?

Please help.

Unfortunately I can't help much, but I'm interested in the original ending as well. Rumors persist that it has been shown this way in theaters occasionally over the years, but I've never seen any specific details and I've certainly never seen it. I can tell you that it has never been released in that format on DVD or Blu-Ray, and probably never on VHS or Laserdisc either. It's a shame because I'd really love to see a restored version of this film as originally presented in 1956, before the addition of the prologue/epilogue and narration. Apparently a "special edition" DVD was actually being prepared with a new audio commentary track and who knows what other supplements, but sadly this was never completed or released.

Anyway, you might want to try posting your questions on this forum, there are lots of knowledgeable people here:

Everyone wonders about the original ending, and many have seen it. I am wondering how did the movie start when it was first filmed. Did it have him arriving home on the train, with a slightly different narration? Was there ANY narration in the movie since what we hear is him talking to the doctors?

It's a great film.

Saw it on TV many years ago. It opens with him arriving on a train. Don't remember any narration.

Several sceince fiction film festivals in the early eighties clipped the start and end to show the original ending. I saw it on TV about 1972. Beginning when he arrives on the train..He runs in the street to warn the world, "You're next!" The end. The only documented releases of the original ending were test preview audiences..like the films that play in San Francisco for a test market now before a studio decides to release it to all theaters. Most recent was "Diary of a Teenage Girl."
