Perkins was excellent in this!
He was superb on the battlefield near the end of this film. I'm not surprised that he received an Oscar nomination here! What a performance!

shareI like the comical scene where he's menaced by the amazonian Hudspeth
sisters! "Pleased to meet thee, are these thy daughters? Makes me feel
kind of . . . . romantic."
And Gary Cooper's look.

Yes, funny stuff. Marjorie Main was a joy too.
Me,being a Perkins fan what's left to say?... Of course he was good in it! He was good in everything he played!
shareHe didn't have to do much acting in that scene. Trying to get away from those aggressive sisters, all wanting to have a piece of him, was probably the easiest part of making the movie.
Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
Yes, he was superb. I second that. But where was his Oscar nomination for Psycho??????
shareI agree mln. He was great in this and Psycho. One wonders where were the oscar nominations.
shareAnthony Perkins is one of the greatest actors ever. He was wonderful in FP and simply brilliant in Psycho. Where were the Oscar nominations, indeed. A travesty, really.
shareOh, yes. One of the major oversights. I always think that he, like a lot of those in his time ie Henry Fonda & Co., were so good in everything they played, that they were taken for granted.
shareHi pc-daisy,
I just rewatched Friendly Persuasion for the upteenth time on TCM - A lovely film and Perkins, as usual was wonderful. He deserved his Oscar nomination and at least a Best Actor nod for Psycho.
And he was so nice to watch. So genuine. Although good looking, he wasn't one of the pretty boys and could play any part. You can't get more diverse than his work in both FP and Psycho.
shareThe lovely chemistry between father (Gary Cooper) Big Jess and eldest son, Joshua (Tony Perkins) is a lesson in understated and believable. Perkins and Cooper physically mirror each other in many gestures as well. Two sexy men and the goose, brilliant.
