Here is a defining moment for me, one of several found in this movie: The Mongols are sitting round the campfire having dinner when someone starts playing a balalaika (or whatever it was). Who should get up and start dancing but- are you ready?- Lee Van Cleef. Now, can you imagine nasty ol' Lee doing a dos y dos with his horse in "High Noon"? Frank Miller would have shot him instead of sheriff Gary Cooper, his intended target.
There are many more scenes like the above in "The Conqueror", if you have the patience to sit through it all the way to the end.
I agree; actually I started laughing right after the credits when the narrative starts rolling. And then I start rolling!
Seriously, there was so much talent involved in this film, and especially there was the controversy about the film's being shot so close to a nuclear test site which resulted in many participants developing cancer...that really was a tragedy.

Um the deaths are not funny, shocking actually. But the movie itself is hilarious.
