Lorna Thayer

The actress playing the mother in this goofy thing looked eerily familiar-- about the only really eerie thing in the movie. She kept making an little upside-down sneer with her lower lip-- where have I seen that ugly expression before?

Finally it hit me-- she's the snotty waitress in "Five Easy Pieces" who refuses to get Jack Nicholson a side order of toast! He orders a chicken salad sandwich, then says "now all you gotta do is hold the lettuce and tomato, hold the mayo, and hold the chicken salad."

"You want me to hold the chicken salad?"

"Yeah, I want you to hold it between your knees!"

Talk about going from worst to first!

And I thought I was a hardcore movie fan!

That's why, when she was feeding the chickens and they attacked her, I was yelling at the screen "Hold them between your knees!"

I guess not.

The animals really had it out for her. She was attacked by the family dog, her chickens, some birds and the neighbor's cow.

reply

Those were the same chickens that were in the chicken salad. I just caught the ending on TCM and recognized her too.

Never saw Five easy pieces, but I have seen this
Movie at least 10 times.
No way a jack Nicholson flick is better than Paul Birch masterpiece.

"She kept making an little upside-down sneer with her lower lip-- where have I seen that ugly expression before?"

Joan Crawford had that kind of mean mouf.
