Who do you think should play 'Rhoda' if they ever made a Remake?

I know people don't think there should be a Remake, but if you had to choose someone to play "Rhoda", who would you choose?
Also, who would you think would be good for any of the other characters?

It's just a question, I'm not suggesting there should be a Remake, so no reason to fight...

Whoever the actress is, I hope they don't make Rhoda speak with a monotone "creepy kid" voice. I'm really starting to hate that trend in recent horror/thriller movies that have child characters. One of the things that made The Bad Seed good was Patty McCormack's range of emotions, and she wasn't just stone-faced and wide-eyed for the entire movie.

Hell, let's not remake this film at all.

she's too old to play her now, but when she was a small girl, Hayden Panittiere would have been great!

I guess it depends if were are talking about a remake with a little girl that would resemble the old Rhoda(meaning blond hair and blue eyes) or just a little girl that was cute. I guess that when Dakota Fanning was a little girl she could have pulled it off but obviously not now. Here is another thought on someone who I thought could have pulled off Rhoda WHEN she was a little girl. Nobody laugh but one of the Olsen twins could have pulled off playing Rhoda around eight or so.

There was this girl who played a murderer who killed a boy on Law and Order a few years ago that would have been perfect for the role. BTW the kid got off!

the planet is fine; the people are f@cked!!

Amen.

Oh Lord, you gave them eyes but they cannot see...

In fact, let's not remake ANYTHING and have some new ideas for a change. I don't understand--it seems like every time someone sees a movie they start thinking REMAKE!

reply

As a famous Hollywood mogul (Harry Cohn? Warner? Sam Goldwyn?) once said: "If they liked it once, they'll love it twice!"

reply

Wait, I got one more. Now she obviously would not work for this day and age but the little girl who died from the Polterguist movies would have made a great Rhoda if they were considering a remake back then.

it would be difficult for Heather Rourke to star in it unless she were dead in the start of the movie...

the girl in the remake had dark hair... I forget her name

reply

The actress's name was Carrie Wells. In the movie that character was changed from Rhoda to Rachel. Also why in the world in the original they chose the name Rhoda is beyond me. The name is so ugly sounding.

Guys, there's already been a remake of this movie. It came out in the 1980s, and has the same title and everything. But if you are all talking about a re-remake, then wasn't the recent movie, "The Orphan" based off this??? I thought I read that somewhere.

reply

Yeah I am aware of the remake from 1985. I enjoyed that as well and bought the DVD off of the Warner Brother's website. I used to have the movie video taped off of television but lost the tape. Never thought I would be able to find the DVD. And you're right about Orphan. In fact that movie could have been a reboot of The Bad Seed if they changed a few things. For example the mother Kate in her research could have discovered that Esther's biological mother was a psycopath that spent time in Saarne. This is where Esther could have inherited her "bad seed" genes. And of course they would have to take away the twist at the end and just made her a real little girl. Just give the movie the title The Bad Seed and there you go. It would have been a complete reboot but look at H2 and how it was completely different from the original movie.

immgausa I never saw that episode but I remember someone talking about it. Apparently the looking girl seemed without feeling and no conscience just like Rhoda.

Would love to see a remake, if it could be done as masterfully as the original.

What about Darcy Rose Byrnes?

reply

It was already remade in the 90's as "The Good Son"; Macauley Caulkin was the "Rhoda" in that one.

I liked that film, I even saw it in the theaters. I've never understood why it failed so badly. It really should have revived McCauley Calkins' career, he was that good (truth be told he's not done such a good job since). The rest of the cast rocked as well.

As to who should play Rhoda, if this film were ever to be remade? An unknown, who didn't get the job with nepotism and has no background (or family) in acting.

um ... 'the Good Son' was released only a year after 'Home Alone 2', and before 'Getting Even with Dad', 'The Pagemaster', and 'Richie Rich'. So at the time of release his career didn't need a revival

reply

I never saw those films, so that might be why I didn't know. Frankly, I thought it came out after the Richie Rich horror film... :)
I still stand by my post, even after all this time.
