i think the 'Corinth' Version is far better than the 'Comprehensive'
They just simply tried too hard on the COMPREHENSIVE VERSION. They put everything together as if it were a normal movie in the first place. It felt like reading latter Kerouac turned into early Hemingway. It felt too normal and the COMP. version simply bored me. It looked better, sounded better, sure, there were more shots, and some good ones at that (the one of the yacht comes to mind), but the Corinth Version, in my opinion, simply flows better. Sure there is less minutes, but that is a good thing. The Corninth Version gets to the meat of the story quicker, and the plot makes more sense, and things wrap up a lot tighter, and I also like the ending, showing the girl driving off with the English guy, I thought that worked too (even though Welles didn't like this ending, he also wanted to plane to have crashed into the sea, so he wasn't happy with anything). With the COMPREHENSIVE VERSION they added other scenes Welles didnt want in the movie, and those scenes get in the way. Also, I realize that Welles wanted the movie to begin with the body on the beach, but it just didn't seem to fit as much as beginning with the airplane. It seemed forced, manipulated.
The Corinth Version, while it doesnt have the look of the other two (but still looks considerably good), is simply the only version of MR ARKADIN to me.
Good night and have a pleasent tommorow.
