Why so hated?
I don't understand why Mr. Arkadin is regarded as such a flop, its easily a superior film to Touch of Evil, and though it never quite attains what Citizen Kane does, it is still a very solid film.
The acting is great all around, I didn't see a single bad performance, Welles is able to pull of an impressive display in both direction and acting ability. The camera was impressive as always, in some instances I just stopped and said 'wow', it was impressive to say the least. The storyline, while not nearly as engaging as Citizen Kane's was a good plot, and kept me interested throughout. It was exiting, dramatic and anything but boring.
I've a limited knowledge of Welles, and this is only my third experience with him, but compared to Touch of Evil this film is much, much better. Citizen Kane is of course superior film, but Mr. Arkadin is nonetheless a masterpiece in every respect.
So why isn't it regarded as such?
