Teacher Man

I'm a secondary education major, and I first heard about this movie from reading a paragraph from Frank McCourt's "Teacher Man."
I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience? If not (and you're a younger viewer), what gave you the idea to watch the film?

I am high school teacher at an inner-city school in Texas and am currently working on my Masters in Educational Administration. I was amazed that the issues discussed in the movie are very relevant today and saddened that not much has changed in some teachers and administrators attitudes.

In my middle school, in the late '80's, they would hold assemblies for all the students to watch movies 2-3 x' a year. This was one of the movies they showed. I never forgot it.

that's really awesome! I wish they'd still do that today.

I'm taking a course that happens to talk about how teachers are shown in film, and so I decided to see what was up. Man, teachers aren't ever shown like this these days! And the movie was still so compelling. No film company would ever take this idea up today because it wouldn't "sell." But I think this story really motivates more people to teach. These days, teaching is still looked down upon, and what a shame.
