If the scene had been played today it would have been more graphic with blood everywhere.
in the dvd version, blood on the delinquent student appears as the police take him away. It was interesting because it appears to be put in.

The next day or whatever, when the kids are discussing the incident, one of them said that the kid needed three blood transfusions. Yes, we would have seen a lot more blood, although his face was pretty mangled.

I think when we saw the different shots of kids talking about the incident, the point was to show how they exaggerated it, creating an even more hatefull atmosphere toward the teacher. So he probably didn't really need the blood transfusions.
