Cary Scott: What's in a name?

I've been wondering if "Cary Scott", the name of Jane Wyman's character, was some sort of inside joke vis a vis Hudson's being gay, albeit closeted, and the alleged affair between Cary Grant and Randolph Scott.

The movie came after the book which was written by Edna and Harry Lee (mother and son team.) Don't think they were trying to use your suggestion. The book is very interesting and enjoyable. There are some differences. Check it out at the library.
