The best example of its type

For those of us who enjoy the many lavish Technicolor romantic melodramas of the Fifties, "All That Heaven Allows" to me, is the paradigm. Douglas Sirk's use of intense color, dramatic music, gorgeous photography, lavish sets and perfectly-dressed and coiffed actors all enhance the surreal quality of the movie and make what could have been just another soap opera into a masterpiece.

"I love corn!"

I couldn't agree more. Just love this film, for all the reasons, and more, that you state.

I am also in agreement. This is a superb movie. I like it so much better than Magnificent Obsession, which I find really stretches credulity. Rock and Jane have a wonderful chemistry and I love the messages of the story about living the simple life and not letting an age difference spoil love. It's ahead of its time in that regard. And, don't you just want to strangle her kids?!

reply

Not just her kids, but all her country club friends. Who needs such "friends"?
