Insights Into Douglas Sirk

I love this movie -- no apologies, and found nothing comedic about it. Perhaps there's a bit of irony here and there, but growing up in the 50's, it's much easier for me to understand the social attitudes expressed in the film, as well as how the film was made itself.

I found this site which gives great insights into the work of Douglas Sirk, including discussions on his films, including this one.

Thank you for the link. I agree this is a profoundly beautiful film, with poignant social commentary. In my opinion things haven't changed that much. An older wealthier woman marrying a younger man who was her gardener would still be considered worthy of scorn in most social circles. I also didn't find anything comical about it (other than the character Mona's steroid level bitchiness). People making fun of the movie because Rock Hudson is gay are missing the point.
