This film was the inspiration for SNL's 'Coneheads'.

Dan Akcroyd watched this film and thought it was hysterically funny that none of the Earth people, all sceintists picked by the aliens for their intellegence, noticed anything "odd" about the folks from Metaluna. So what if they have huge foreheads, have names like Brak and Exeter, employ a technology centuries in advance of contemporary science, speak stilted English, and don't seem to have clue about how things work on Earth. They must be down to earth, good ol boys, at heart. They're actually from Remulak, a small town in France.

And where did the "genetically challenged" family get an interossiter, a full-sized remote control airplane, and a death ray? "Inbreds R' Us" ? To paraphrase "Baby Jane": But they DID, they DID make the make-up obvious! :)
