Under Rated

No question in my mind-and others-this Classic is way too low on the numbers scale...this movie still entertains and visually it is still spectacular !

I could go on in my support of this gem and enumerate the many reasons but others have already done so on this board w\quaint eloquence;

...what a film...what memories... go Cal... go Exeter .... i'm comin' Metaluna!

reply

Ditto.

This is a Sci-Fi classic. Love it.

WHY it rates so low here is just plain odd...........

"WHY it rates so low here is just plain odd..........."

I've never in my life seen it shown on tv; if I hadn't watched the MST3K movie I'd never have known it existed. There are so many potboilers (according to dictionary.com, that word *does* fit) that are re-run on tv, you'd think someone in charge would make the bold decision of airing something actually GOOD for a change.

It was huge back then. Too much forgotten these days. But I do think this is underrated in the classic sci-fi film department, because I like this movie better than films like FORBIDDEN PLANET and THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL.

To rank this higher than those 2 epics is really sayin'somethin'

I think a lot of people were influenced by Mystery Science Theater 3000 , which made fun of this movie. It really doesn't deserve such a low rating here. By the way, I love MST3K! But a lot of people may have only seen the MST3K version of it and panned it. Just my theory.
By the way, the color in this film is dazzling!

This is a neglected classic;

-gorgeous colour by the way i'm in agreement

-the spoof back then in '95 demeaned it (though i see it more of an affectionate tribute and send-up)

-the story remains intriguing

-the role of Exeter stands out as a unique portrait & has depth as a character that the others don't possess)

-has a watchability factor(i revisit this flic often)

I saw TIE on the big screen 40 years ago, and it blew me away despite being a poor print with a red tint. Everyone who mentioned the spoof ruining its reputation is right. Prior to that time, it was considered one of the big 3 SF classics of the 1950s, right up there with TDTESS and FP.

Jeff Morrow's performance is brilliant, streets ahead of the other cast members, though! I've always wondered if Wayne Alexander based his portrayal of Lorien in Babylon 5 on Exeter...

The sounds of the saucer and the interocitor, the scenes of the decimated Metalunan landscape .. for me the best scenes are reserved for the construction of the interocitor.

It's a pity no one ever gave Joseph Newman the chance to do a director's cut prior to his death in 2006.

...this scene-which is quite long-pertaining to the construction of the interociter,is really quite curious...it has become one of my fave segments,to wit,i believe,gives authenticity to this maligned classic....

...still a spectacular spectacle....

I still like the film, and the send up decades later.
