Anyone hear of 'This Island Earth: 2 1/2 Years In the Making'

Amazon.com mentions this will be included as a Feature on the MST3K MOVIE Blu-Ray. Is this an existing documentary, or brand new? Does anyone know if Rex Reason and Russell Johnson are involved? I don't think they have any hard feelings against MST3K, and it would be nice to see them discuss the filming of THIS ISLAND EARTH.

It was made for the MST3K Blu and pretty nice.
Rex Reason does 'appear' in it as a voice over.

Disappointed Rex and Russell didn't appear. I watched it, and Rex's voice sounds like it was recorded over the phone. I wish more of the people who actually made THIS ISLAND EARTH were involved, granted most of them are either dead or too old I guess.

Screenwriter C. Courtney Joyner appears, though. That was pretty cool. I like the movies he did with Charles Band.

Though he just is there as a fan who had seen the movie as a kid, Director Joe Dante in interviewed about his thoughts about the movie.

Dante and Joyner do mention Mystery Science Theater 3000 and say they ruined the legacy of the "This Island Earth" movie.

Of course if it wasn't more the release of the MST3K Movie then this behind the scenes might never have been produced. But nobody mentions that.

Anyways fans of the movie might want to see the Behind the Scenes to learn about the production of T.I.E.

I recall them criticizing MST3K for featuring this movie, and cutting almost a half hour from its running time, but I think that was a decision by the studio. And it was probably for the best really, as they were hoping to make the film appeal to new audiences. Roger Ebert addressed that possibility on SISKEL & EBERT. It makes sense a non-MST3K fan might get bored with the formula faster.

I love MST3K: THE MOVIE, even if only 55 minutes of THIS ISLAND EARTH were riffed. But the DVD/Blu-Ray includes some great Deleted Scenes, including some extended footage of THIS ISLAND EARTH being riffed.
