Although I would have preferred viewing this movie on TCM, I too watched it on Svengoolie last night and found his statement to be unjustified as well.
Maybe back in the 1950's a wet shirt and x-rays revealing a woman’s body was titillating to the audience, but nothing to warrant Sven's comment. Maybe, like you said, a network tease to keep us viewers watching. Because it wasn't really holding my interest.
And Ms Domergue‘s screen presence (and acting) was nothing like Anne Francis in Forbidden Planet, or Julie Adams in Creature From The Black Lagoon.
BTW: don't know how I could have missed seeing this movie all these years, as this was my first viewing. I have been eager to see it ever since reading about it in the book Classic Science Fiction Films. Quite disappointed though. IMO - nowhere near being a true classic. Not cheesy or funny enough to be so bad, it's good. Good for only one viewing to complete your 1950’s sci-fi checklist.
