This Is My Favorite Old Scary Movie

I love this movie. It makes me think of staying up late with a sleepover friend watching the "Mr. Mummy" show on Saturday night. It was one of those local channel shows with a host showing scary movies. Kinda like Roddy McDowell in the movie "Fright Night". "Them" was always my favorite. My husband found it for me last year on DVD and I have loved being able to watch it whenever I want. That's me over there, trippin' down memory lane.

Great movie.

I just think it's funny that people rave about Jaws, and yet in so many ways it copies the way this movie reveals the ants.

It's one of my all-time faves as well. It also makes me smile every time I see James Whitmore on a TV commercial he did for Miracle-Grow!

Then stick to horror movies, weji.

And stick to horror movie threads, too.

It's one of my favorites too.

I consider "Them!" to be the best of the many giant killer monster movies made in the 50's. It's a very smart, scary and surprisingly subtle film with fine acting, engaging characters, strong direction, a nicely spooky atmosphere (the opening third is really eerie and enigmatic), nifty gigantic beasts, a tightly streamlined to-the-point narrative and a thrilling climax. Moreover, I especially enjoyed seeing such familiar faces as Leonard Nimoy, Dub Taylor, William Schallert and even Fess Parker in colorful bit parts.

This was one of the movies shown on "Nightmare Theatre," which was likely similar to "Mr. Mummy." "Nightmare Theatre" aired on WFFT-TV from Ft. Wayne, IN in the 70's and 80's and showed all the old Universal horror movies, among others. It was hosted by "The Shroud," who resembled a taller version of a Jawa from Star Wars. When I was about twelve I wrote to The Shroud and he mailed an autographed picture to me. I wonder if I still have it...

this movie brings back memories of staying up late to watch the Saturday night "horror" movie when I was about 7 or 8 in the mid70's

Them and Earth vs Flying Saucers are my 2 fav 50's S-F movies...here in San Diego in the 60's on Sat. afternoon there was "Science Fiction Theatre" which was hosted by this trippy chick called Moonalisa and her sister Thimbalisa?? Anyone remember SFT??

I absolutely love Them. Killing ants with flamethrowers reminds me of the hairspray & match technique that I used on the little varmints in my back yard. I had nightmares about giant ants crashing through my bedroom walls.
