How about "War of the Worlds"? Saw it as a kid & was blown away. Later I read the book. I'm a big fan of Victorian sci-fi & would love the see the story done in the original setting.
Another film that has stuck with me all these years is "When Worlds Collide".
A list of my favorite's and I have probably forgotten one or two.
Earth VS the Flying Saucers
This Island Earth (despite the ribbing it took from MST3K)
Forbidden Planet
War of the Worlds
20,000 Leagues under the Sea (Incredible film that still holds up today)
Red Planet Mars
Them
It the terror from beyond space (On many levels not a very good film but it has a special place in my list as it is my earliest Drive in Movie memory)
The Thing (love the story, love the local)
Target Earth
The Man from Planet X
Abominable Snowman (I guess this could actually be considered a horror film)
Day the Earth Stood Still
fair play Blue, you have almost the very list i would have put up! but you missed out "it came from outer space" and "when worlds collide".
shareOh quite right, I completely forgot both of those and they are both deserving of being on the list I actually own them and it just completely slipped my mind. "When Worlds Collide" was a great George Pal production, which reminds me of "The Time machine" and I especially liked “It came from outer space.” Another one that I don’t have on there that I should have is “The monolith monsters” which I thought kind of fell into the same field as “It came from outer space”. Neither was a big budget film but they both had fun stories combined with a cast that may have lacked real star power but none the less worked really well together. I really am hooked on films from that era and I keep hoping to one day run across one I have not seen but that does not happen much anymore, any suggestions are always eagerly accepted.
