Should I watch it?
Is this movie good? I was thinking about renting it, but I didnt want to watch it if it sucked. I like Classic movies, but some classics were made just to get more movies on the screen.

No question - it's well worth a look and then some.
shareThem! is probably the best "bug" movie ever made. Definately should watch it.
shareBy all means watch this movie. It is very well written, directed and acted. This is an intelligent movie made for all ages.
shareYes. Watch it. Great movie. I especially liked how it respects the audience enough to give them an explanation of the ants behaviors.
It was well written, acted, and directed.
You said you didn't want to see it if it sucked. When I recommend movies like this, I generally mention the old-fashioned special effects. Tragically, a lot of younger audiences can't get past the special effects and enjoy these classic movies. I for one really liked the way the giant ants looked. I wish that Hollywood would go back to the old days of special effects instead of relying on so much CGI.
The movie's story stands on its own, and I liked the special effects.
As a side note, imdb shows the movie as being shown on AMC on December 29, so you can tape or tivo so you don't need to rent it.
This movie was awesome. I can totally imagine myself going to the theater in the 50s to see it. It was well written, acted, shot, and produced. Plus, geez, aliens totally ripped off that flamethrowering the eggs shot! (not that thats a bad thing!)
great good old movie, and i usually like great bad old movies!
WATCH THIS MOVIE! (im watching it on amc right now, hoping to see greased lightning at the terminator cruise into the shot at the LA river.

For any Sci Fi, horror, or classic fan this is a must see movie. However one note of caution. If you're more into special effects you may not like this movie. While it does have a certain amount of special effects, they are minimal because of the time period it was produced in. Like many of the classics, since they couldn't produce the special effects they can today they had to rely more on plot, character development, and actor skill to appeal to audiences.
That being said, this is an all-time classic movie. It was actually one of the first (if not the first) movie that dealt with radiation affecting living creatures. While far from accurate, it is a wonderful foray into the "what if" genre. The acting is excellent, the plot is substantial, and the acting is believable and intelligent. If you've never seen this movie you are missing a true gem.

Very good movie. AMC shows a lot of classics.
shareThe neat thing about this film is how it is set up as a detective story. Through most of the movie the viewer only sees what the cop and the FBI agent (James Whitmore and James Arness) are seeing; they have to put together the clues to first figure out what is happening and then figure out where the ants are hiding.
There's good use of location filming too. An example: the rail yard, where the carload of sugar has been ransacked.
Yes, this is a classic for good reason. Could use a nice dvd with a bunch of extras.
shareAbsolutely! A very good, undated movie. No overacting. Good, tight script. A must see.

By all means, this movie doesn't suck.
shareHELL YES! James Arness, James Whitmore, Fess Parker, Dub Taylor, Leonard Nemoy, SANTA CLAUS! You couldn't ask for a better cast than they have in this here movie, right here. It starts off as a kind of murder mystery and goes for about 30 minutes before you even see an ant (larger that life, that is). The pace is good and the movie doesn't stall. They play it straight and you get sucked in. It is very easy to suspend disbelief with this film, no matter how goofy the premise is. Beside, how can you not believe what Santa Claus tells you?
shareTarantino nicley used the same set up in "From Dusk 'Til Dawn". You think it's one type of movie then BLAM!, the true colors come out . . .
"It's a trap!"

I've watched it several times and am watching it now.
