Started off kinda of slow, but picked up in the end

This movie was a bit "talky" at times (though it was understandable, as what was occurding did need to be explained), but it picked up very much torwards the end when they battle the giant ants. The creatures looked excellent, and that piercing sound they made was very creepy. I give it a 7/10. I look forward to more giant bug flicks in the future.

If they re-make this I will feed you to African ants that swarm a person and eat them to the bones in a couple minutes. How about that?

Yeah this movie was very much a product of the 1950s. If they remade it today it wouldn't be the same. Or if they do remake at at least set it in 1954! There have been enough films imitating this one it can already be considered to have been remade 100+ times. THis was actually original when it was first released.

Wow, I LOVE the beginning!

The little girl's catatonic march through the desert, and the devastated locations of the trailer and store (I thought those sets were really cool) and of course the "Awakening" scene at the hospital...

Hell, I think the first glimpse of the "bone pile" is still fairly powerful in this Age of blood and gore.

I feel this movie is truly a top-drawer Horror Classic that has aged well, due in large part I think to it being B&W. The quality of the acting is truly great for being from this Horror/Sci-fi era.

ME TOO! Always has been. I have a VHS tape (remember those? LOL!) that has THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD and the original WAR OF THE WORLDS on it...

...I loved that tape on those "nothing on TV" nights, but I was always bummed out that I was 20 minutes short of being able to fit THEM! on there too.

The entire movie is well made, as I now appreciate more than ever, having just watched it for only my third time on the big screen. (I previously had seen it as a kid in the middle 1950s, and in the early or middle 1980s.) I agree with you, InfernoJones: my favorite scenes were the early ones set in New Mexico. For me the desert scenes are beautiful, and the dialogue is a treat, reminding me of lines by the cops in Plan 9 From Outer Space by Ed Wood. Great comic touch. (I wonder: did Ed Wood borrow a little from this movie?)

Also, I feel that they spent about the right amount of time with the action scenes at the end. The drawn-out high tech FX action scenes in movies these days bore me.

I watch this movie all the time. I have it on Laser and on DVD. I never think of it as being talky.

It's a very intelligent movie and it starts off more like a murder mystery and a scary one at that.

It is a classic in every way.

There's nothing wrong with the pacing of this movie, not at any point. They knew back then that every minute doesn't need to be chasing and fighting, like a cartoon. Well-written dialogue develops mood and character, which make a good movie.
