Loads of giant male ants appeared from nowhere??????????

In the cave they said that only two escaped. Then we here of these male ants and apparantly there was a good amount of them. Did they belong to one of the many other giant ant colonies around America? lol.

They said that 2 or 3 winged males got away along with a female. The old guy who was locked up then said that he had observed the ants (he thought they were planes) entering and leaving the storm drains for months. Being that a queen can lay hundreds or thousands of eggs, it's easy to have produced that many. If I remember correctly, the female lead also said that the ants actually hatch as adults due to the mutations they'd gone through.

One thing that gets glossed over by the editing is that the film takes place over a month and a half from initial attack to final battle. There are references in the film to periods of weeks passing since previous scenes or actions. The LA tunnel colony for example was started five weeks prior to the attack on the father and sons, as per the drunkard patient's testimony.

There could be many male ants. It doesn't matter. They will die soon enough (the scientist even says so). The problem is the females since only they can lay eggs.
