Still a great move after almost 60 years
Next year (2014) will be the 60 year anniversary of this film. My son, who is in his early 20's, recently was making fun of the special effects in this movie. I pointed out to him that the movie was so old I was 3 years old when it was released. I also told him the producer had a very limited budget to work with. Lastly I said " In spite of what I just told you the special effects are advanced for that era" He now has a far better opinion of the movie.
As a kid I liked how they always seemed to handy access to cool things like Thompson Submachine guns, Bazookas, and Flame throwers. Being attacked by a giant ant? No worries, we got a Thompson in the back seat of our 1953 Ford cop car.
As an adult I like seeing the now antique cars in use that I used to see everyday as a kid. I overlook the obvious oversights. Like the one scene where the camera was in the back of someone firing a bazooka. In real life the backblast would have damaged the camera and killed the operator. Or when they are down in the tunnel after using cyanide gas. Sure they have oxygen masks but they also have bare skin and the cyanide would have went throught the skin and killed them. Still it's such a good movie I can overlook all that.
