It's like having Carl Sagan around giving a lecture while a major crisis and panic is going on. There is no hint of alarm in his demeanor at all.

Agreed. He was a delightful mix of scholar and befuddled uncle. I loved his confusion of (actually incorrect) radio communications protocol and that razz he blew.

He was saying "antennae", which is the plural of antenna. When he was referring to only one, he said "antenna".

Edmund Gwenn was a wonderful actor. Who else could they have gotten to play Santa Claus in "Miracle On 34th Street"?
