1954

I tried to see this movie in 1954 - they would not sell me a ticket - it was restricted to adults; too upsetting; too disturbing - this was at the time that comic books were under attack for among other things causing juvenile deliquency and there was a prevailing fear that young teenagers could somehow be psychologically affected by media - wow have things changed

I was 9 and my sister was 7. We begged our parents to go see it. It was heavily advertised on TV. We saw it. I don't recall any restrictions.

Big mistake on our part. Sis and I were so scared, we slept with our parents for three nights.

My Dad told me that when he went to Leicester Square Odeon in London to see The Wizard of Oz, in 1938 or 39, he was refused entry and came back home in tears. He was six.
