Dick Powell just too old!
Debbie Reynolds is adorable in this, and Powell is very likable in his part. But it's not realistic at all that he is playing a 35 year old man. Why didn't they get someone closer to the age of the character, then it wouldn't feel so cringey to watch? A search for actors around age 35 at the time would include Howard Keel, William Holden, and Robert Preston.
