"Suddenly" vs "The Desperate Hours" (1955)

This is so similar to "The Desperate Hours" with Humphrey Bogart. What do other people think? Which is better?

I've only seen "The Desperate Hours" twice, but have viewed "Suddenly" numerous times, and much prefer the latter. I think there are three reasons for this:

"Suddenly" is such a product of its era; i.e. small-town America in the 1950s. The town of Suddenly could easily be a place where you might see "Beaver Cleaver" coming over to play with the boy Pidge. And, on a darker side, there's a strong sense of the Cold War mentality of the times. "The Desperate Hours" could have taken place in any town and in any era of history--which many people might consider an asset, although I don't.

"The Desperate Hours" is very claustrophobic, which once again, some might consider a good point. However, in "Suddenly" we get a sense of the town--not just the interior of one house in which a family is being held as virtual hostages.

And finally, I don't recall getting myself to care very much for any of the family in the Bogart movie, whereas I do care about "the Bensons." (And this may be just because I'm so much more familiar with "Suddenly.")
