Was that Fred Gwynne as the state trooper who got killed?

Of course, "Herman Munster" of the old 1960s sitcom classic. The state trooper looks exactly like him. Of course he'll play a NY city cop in "Car 54: Where are You" some years later.

Paul Wexler. He was tall and somewhat resembled the long-faced Fred Gwynne ("Herman") but it was Paul Wexler, if you look at the credits. And he didn't die. The ending says 'Slim' is going to make it. It was 'Jud' the tv repairman who died in the film.
He only lived to be 50, dying in Nov. 1979 of leukemia.
