No. No remake.
I am not a fan of remakes, and if this movie (a musical) were remade today, it would not work. It succeeded back then, but it would be a serious disapointment if it were remade.
yea thats true they would probably cut out all the musical parts(a.k.a. the good parts)and make it like a drama or something.
shareNo, I don't even think they'd do that. Even if they left the whole musical idea in it, it would still be horrible. I've never been a fan of musicals, so maybe I'm being unfair about it, but especially musicals today, I think they're completely rotten.
Seven Brides is a brilliant one.
They should never remake Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. It is a wonderful film and everything about it just flows so well. The cast said they had a ball making it and it shows. It would be difficult these days to get male dancers of the calibre of Tommy Rall, Jacques d'Amboise, Russ Tamblyn,(though technically a gymnast), Matt Mattox and Marc Platt together in one film. We must not forget Howard Keel, Jane Powell and the lovely female dancers such as Julie Newmar, Virginia Gibson and Ruta Lee. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is still a vibrant and remarkably good film which stands up well after more than 50 years.
shareTotally agree. "Seven brides for seven brothers" is a wonderful movie, and to try and make it again would be just a suicide. One of the reasons why it is so brilliant is exactly the time when it was filmed. I also think it's practically impossible (not to say COMPLETELY impossible) to find such great dancers (and actors at the same time) as the ones that cagskg has mentioned.
So, in my opinion, the story shouldn't be taken to the big screen again. It just wouldn't compare with the masterpiece made in 1954.
This movie should never be remade.
shareI would not like to see it remade. I love it too much the way that it is. I saw it on stage a couple of years ago. Although cute, nothing beats the original.

No, never a remake. The original is still as good today as it was then. The remakes of other movies that I've seen didn't even come close to the overall quality of the original.
I did see "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" on the stage once, but felt it to be just an imitation of the movie. There was a TV series by the same name in the early 80's, but it didn't last more than one season. I was working evenings then and didn't have a VCR yet, so I don't think I watched it more than once or twice. It didn't impress me at all. They even changed the characters' names.
This is one of those movies that can't be remade. It would be like remaking It's A Wonderful Life or something. Just not something that would work and be a success. I would literally cringe to ever hear that either of those movies were being remade.

It cannot be remade: there was an innocence in the 50's that made the premise cute. Nowadays, it would just come across as creepy at best.
Those who study history are doomed to watch others repeat it.
No, I don't think a remake is necessary mainly because I do not think it would translate very well to a modern audience. I grew up loving this movie, it is one of my favourites. A couple of years ago on my 16th or 17th birthday a few of my friends were over and we watched this movie because as I said it was one of my favourites and I was the birthday girl so I got my choice. They watched it but I know they didn't like it. They still make a few cracks about 'Bless Your Beautiful Hide' today.
As much as I merely enjoy for the film it is I can already here the remarks that would be made about some of the lyrics in Lonesome Polecat. Not to mention the boys kidnap the girls and then they fall in love. There is whole lotta connections to Stockholm syndrome I mean look at the way modern society are now tearing about Disney Princess movies.
As much as I would find the prospect interesting I would have to say no
