Why I have disdain for this movie

When I was a kid, I swear this was on TV constantly.
And this was back when we only had 3 major networks.
And this movie is not really something a 7 year old boy wants to watch. To this day, I've still never watched more than about 10 minutes of it. I'm sure it's a good movie and all, but it was ruined for me.
I wonder if my local TV stations got this movie really cheap or royalty-free. Was it just me who saw this thing on TV constantly?

Not sure how old you are or what part of the country you lived in, but I grew up in the Midwest with only 3 network channels and I don't believe I ever saw it. Only thing I remember was the TV show knock-off which I don't think was musical, I think it was sort of a drama/comedy that only lasted about two seasons. For the life of me I can't remember the series title. It was years later that I learned of the source material (this movie). I'm not saying it never aired on any of our stations, but if it did I missed it. And I watched a LOT of TV growing up.
