I think the trivia section mentions they must have been going on names from the Old Testament, since there were supposedly no 'F' names there. But who knows.

The Biblical Felix was also cruel, brutal and of poor morals. I find it easier to believe that if the parents found the name, they chose to tell their other children simply that there weren't any 'F' names in the Bible, rather than explain why they disregarded 'Felix'. The boys weren't the most educated bunch and they didn't attend church, so they were unlikely to ever come across the name themselves. Adam would only have been around 9 or 10 when Frank was born and named.
