MRS. BIXBY!

Every time I watch this, I am amused by the scene where the four girls, future Brides-to-be, among them the statuesque Julie Newmeyer (before Catwoman Newmar) enter the general store and are looking for something for a quilting bee (my! How exciting!)

One of the girls speaks first, then another, but watch Newmar. She inhales as tho she intends to say something.

It looks like the first girl who spoke the line got to keep it, but Newmar was too slow.

And watch Mrs. Bixby! She's just turning and beaming at the girls with the strangest drunk expression on her face.

AND FROM THERE, listen to what she says, "oh, I'll heh-heh-heh-heh!"

She doesn't even get out anything responsive.

Maybe the lovely Miss Newmar just has to breathe more than less-lovely girls. ;) (It would be fun to find out about this, though!)

If you listen for a lot of these bit conversations that weren't really part of the plot, they come along interesting. It often seems other than POwell and Kiel, no one else was really given strong dialogue.

When Millie shows up at the barn raising with all the brothers, and the brides-to-be see them all and comment they are all as tall as church steeples, then one of the girls cries out, "it's Millie!" and they all take off to the brothers - listen for one distinctive bride saying, "I just love Millie," and it seems to trail off, but it's in a manner like you'd say "I just love cake for dessert" or something like that, not how you'd speak about a friend.

Millie is doctoring all the brothers after the fight and she's tending to Gideon and he says they tried to be nice, "but when they took off after Adam, an innocent bystander," but he doesn't follow thru correctly. He's saying an L after 'by'. I've never been able to figure out what he might have said.

My favorite is the brides fight in the attic. I am certain it is Newmar who rolls off the bed, but no one was scrapping with her.

And Frank's bride, when CArl wants a kiss, she says, okay, close your eyes, then she closes HERS! How were they going to kiss if they both closed their eyes?

There are a few others I've always noticed. Still my second fave film (after Mad World from '63).

Haven't you ever kissed someone with your eyes closed?

Gideon says, "...innocent byletter". Kind of a rustic way to say "bystander".

When I'm kissing someone we both have our eyes closed. It's weird otherwise. You close your eyes when your faces get close.

Ever open your eyes mid/kiss and your partner has his/her eyes open too? It's really strange.
